I love all of your colors. The contrast of darkness and light is what makes you a powerful work of art. I am in love with all your bold dark shades, as the part of me who is a creature of the night can walk with you there with ease and share my own craft in kind. I am in love with all your different levels of light because they show the part of me who is a fire at the core, the mastery of subtlety from another with a molten center. I love your oceans of blues and greens for peace to our tumult, your furnace of reds and oranges for passion for our secret complacency, your depths of raw umber for our journeys deep into the earth, and your soft yellows like the sun through sheer curtains for our sensitive eyes perceiving so much at all times. I love your grays like I love Winter storms and overcast days that reveal every undertone and sheen in surprising splendor. I love the colors you give me. I am being painted by your love to be made in the likeness of my soul, who was always a part of you. I could only ask one more thing of the Spirit behind all of this: That when we are finally fully revealed to one another and to the rest of creation, and we don’t need bodies anymore to prove our love, that we become whole in the rainbow of our hues, dancing free together across the universe and beyond, a show of colorful lights for anyone who might catch a glimpse. © 2023, Sheya Forest

Author’s Note: This piece was written for my husband. The painting followed, inspired by the poem and what we have together, both innately and with great intent.
