Creature Speak

THE LANGUAGE OF CREATUREHOOD

A Creative Writing Blog

Alien

I.
Being shocked to the core of me,
my veins feel hollow – space
conducting electricty,
fleshless, ungrounded.

The sounds whirl and collapse
in my head, like a circle
of dominos folding under water.

My hands suffer, unstable.
Words fail, distant.
I am taken away
from myself, whittled
down by ruthless invadors.

They won’t stop
touching.
They won’t stop
stomping.

I’m losing skin.

II.
Some say Dolphins
are from space:
another planet,
more awake and kinder
than here.

Biologists inform
that if a human
touches them,
it can damage
their delicate skin
and render them
vulnerable.

There is more than predators
that can tear you apart
in the sea.

Here is a sea, too.

Photo from Explorer Vibes, a lovely shot of dolphins swimming, untouched by human hands.

AUTHOR’S NOTE:
If you would like to see photos of dolphins being touched by scuba divers, you can Google it, and you will find many, many scuba operations who organize such events on purpose. You can also find many, many articles from Biologists and Ecologists who discuss the reasons why this is just as destructive as petting dolphins in captivity. You can read about why it’s bad for dolphins to be in captivity, too.

About Me

I wrote my first story when I was a wee girl of three, followed by my first poem when I was eight. I’ve been writing ever since as a way to cope with life. This practice evolved with learning in both structured settings and through the practice, itself. In my own healing crisis, I found a process I affectionately refer to as Poetic Alchemy. Now on the journey of getting my life back, I do this not only for myself but for you.
